Out of Georgia

MM 568

We are officially in South Carolina, our third state on the six-state Allure ICW trip list.

But first, the voyage from our serene anchorage yesterday included some gorgeous southern mansions.

Is anything more stately than Spanish moss in the trees and ferns on the porch of a house?

The trip today was fairly uneventful, once we transited Hell Gate with a very narrow passage to accommodate our 5’9” draft. Don caught site of our reptilian friend from yesterday near the mast, but I’m happy to coexist if he stays outside and on the bow.

Passing under four bridges, we observed two that lacked clearance (also known as tide boards) boards. We learned, however, that Georgia constructs bridges much more reliably to a 65’ foot clearance at high tide than those in Florida. No antenna- touching bridge spans today!

We anchored for the night just south of the Freeport Marina at Daufuskie Island, and visited the marina bar by dinghy (thanks to Paul Macpherson, we were able to dinghy over). The shrimp, crab and artichoke dip was tasty.
